IKEA partners with Mober for e-vehicle delivery service

MANILA, Philippines — Swedish furniture and homewares chain IKEA Philippines has partnered with Mober, a Filipino technology-logistics company, for its last mile electric vehicle delivery to reduce carbon emissions.

With online orders now accounting for a significant portion of IKEA’s sales, Mober is supporting its goal of 100 percent electric vehicle delivery by 2030.

On Nov. 25, IKEA opened its largest store in the world in the Philippines, welcoming customers to their new 66,000 square meters facility in Manila.

IKEA Philippines said it is committed to making all its home deliveries through electric vehicles “as soon as possible and no later than 2030.”

IKEA Philippines store manager Georg Platzer said IKEA is working with its transport partners to support this goal and as their “small collaborative start to tackle climate change and clean transport.”

“With the first electric vehicle from Mober for instance, we lower harmful emissions as we deliver home furnishing solutions from our store to the customers’ homes,” Platzer said.

Corinna Schuler, director of sustainability and corporate communication for IKEA Southeast Asia, urged authorities in all the markets to help pave the way to a low-carbon economy with positive policies and infrastructure.

“We are excited to be working alongside like-minded suppliers and transport partners like Mober. Together, we can lower harmful emissions while offering IKEA customers the convenience of home delivery,” Schuler said.

“This is a great example of the kind of collaborative action needed to tackle climate change,” she said.

Schuler said IKEA is still working toward securing sustainable alternatives to the big trucks for large furniture delivery.

“With Mober, we are just getting started on our journey… We hope to see more innovations soon,” she said.

Mober, chief executive officer and founder Dennis Ng said the company is planning to secure a mixed fleet of 100 units of electric vans and trucks to reduce carbon emissions by 2030.

“Our goal with our new electric van fleet is to reduce carbon emissions. We are delighted to be collaborating with retail giants like IKEA that are as committed to the reduction of carbon emissions as we are,” Ng said.

“We look forward to serving the company’s customers with the same level of professionalism and efficiency that we are known for,” he said.

The partnership comes hot on the heels of Mober’s recent launch of the Philippines’ first electric delivery van – offering transparent pricing and precise tracking of goods.

Mober is pioneering same day delivery as it boasts a service coverage area of 250 kilometers in Metro Manila areas.

Aside from providing electric vehicle home delivery services for IKEA Philippines, Mober also provides kiosk services, back-office customer relations recovery and furniture assembly.
