PPA to complete 12 port projects
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation, through its maritime arm Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), is set to complete 12 port projects before the end of the year to further enhance connectivity and mobility across the archipelago.
“With ease of movement of people and goods, economic growth is not far behind. This is the power of transport infrastructure. It can truly lead to a better, more comfortable life for Filipinos,” Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said.
In the Visayas, the DOTr said one of the projects to be completed is the Limasawa Port in Southern Leyte.
Construction works cover the port area, expansion of the passenger terminal building, improvement of wharf, and construction of causeway.
Once completed, the port is seen to serve 1,184 passengers daily.
The Sogod Port in Southern Leyte is also getting an expansion, with construction works targeted for completion in November.
Rehabilitation of Hindang Port in Leyte and Mualbual Wharf in Zumarraga, Samar is also ongoing.
The DOTr said a number of Luzon seaport projects are also underway including two in Batangas – the Talisay Port and the Subukin Port in the town of San Juan--due for completion this year.
Three more seaport projects will also be completed in Occidental Mindoro by yearend – the Agkawayan Port, expansion of the Sablayan Port and the rehabilitation of Tayamaan Port.
In Mindanao, construction of the Kaputian Multi-Purpose Port in Davao del Norte is ongoing and is slated for completion this month.
