Gov’t to procure 608 pcsof steel rails for MRT-3

Lawrence Agcaoili - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is looking for a supplier of steel rails as damaged rails have hampered the operations of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3).

In an invitation to bid, the DOTC-MRT3 is seeking bids for the supply and delivery of one lot steel rails and accessories for the mass transit system traversing EDSA.

DOTC-MRT3 and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the project with a budget of P81.52 million involves the procurement of 608 pieces of 12-meter rails.

Prospective bidders could purchase a complete set of bidding documents upon the payment of the non-refundable amount of P50,000.

The DOTC-MRT3 is set to hold a pre-bidding conference on Nov. 7 and interested companies have until Nov. 20 to submit their bids.

The agency added that bidding would be conducted through open competitive bidding procedures using a non-discretionary “pass-fail” criteria as specified in the revised implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 9184 otherwise known as the Government Procurement Reform Act.

The winning bidder would have 90 days from the date of the issuance of Notice to Proceed to deliver the steel rails and accessories.

Operations of MRT-3 were disrupted several times due to broken rails prompting the mass transit system to operate partially until the damaged rails were replaced.

This is part of the 11 projects worth close to P10 billion that are being undertaken by the DOTC to improve the operations and at the same time decongest the MRT-3.
