Meralco completes Laguna ecozone projects

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), the country’s biggest power distributor, has completed three economic zone projects in Laguna, a ranking official said.

Meralco first vice president Ivanna Dela Peña said the company has completed three projects in economic zones that are seen to benefit big local and foreign companies such as San Miguel Corp., Samsung and Bayer, among others.

“We are investing to improve our distribution system and support the developments in our country. Last month, we commissioned three major projects in economic zones in Laguna,” Dela Pena said.

The first of the three projects is the commissioning of the Calamba Premiere Industrial Park’s new 115-kilovolt line, which traverses along the South Luzon Expressway and inside the CPIP in Calamba.

The 2.2-kilometer line will serve as a source of a separately proposed CPIP 115-kilovot-34.5 substation.

The project, commissioned on Sept. 27, is seen to benefit major customers such as Air Liquide, Samsung and other locators.

The second project is the Sept. 29 commissioning of the Laguna Bel-Air substation in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

Dela Pena said the new substation has an initial capacity of 83 megavolt amperes and was cut-in into existing Sta. Rosa II-Laguna International Industrial Park (LIIP) 115 kV line.

“This will relieve critical loadings of adjacent LIIP & Sta. Rosa substations and will also serve growing power requirements of customers in Binan and Sta. Rosa, Laguna and will also help lower technical losses,” she said.

This, she added, would benefit customers in the industrial park such as Nuvali, Toyota Motor Philippines, Nidec Precision Corp. as well as Laguna Bel-Air subdivisions and Sta. Elena Village.

The third project is the commissioning of the Carmelray 83-MVA power transformer at the Carmelray Industrial Park.

“The second 83-MVA power transformer at Carmelray Substation increases its total capacity to 166 MVA and will relieve critical loading of Carmelray Bank No. 1,” she said.

This would address growing power demand at Carmelray Park and help lower technical losses.

“Major customers benefiting from this project are Toshiba Information Equipment, San Miguel Corp., Bayer Philippines, Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines, Epson Precision Philippines and Uniden Electronics Philippines, among others,” she said.
