StanChart boosts CSR program

Donnabelle L. Gatdula - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Standard Chartered Bank Philippines is strengthening its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts as it observes the global World Environment Day 2013 by building houses.

In this community program, the 250 volunteer employees helped in the construction of four houses in the Brgy. Tanza, Navotas, a relocation site of Habitat for Humanity.

StanChart gives three paid leaves to staffers who do volunteer work under the various community programs it advocates.

The clogged drainages and waterways caused by indiscriminate waste dumping cause flooding in the area.

“Residents of Brgy. Tanza, Navotas are not new to this and the relocation site is actually envisioned to be the home of about 500 families of the barangay displaced by floods caused by typhoon Pedring in 2011,” the company said.

Volunteers provided the residents basic information on the effect of global warming and how simple acts of water conservation and proper waste disposal can benefit them and the environment.

Through education, the bank aims to make a positive difference and influence sustainable behavior change on the communities it serves.

Other programs of the SCB are “Seeing is Believing” which tackles about preventable blindness; “Living with HIV”, its work-place education program against HIV/AIDS; and Financial Literacy Program which aims to promote values about saving.

StanChart is a leading international banking group. It has operated for over 150 years in some of the world’s most dynamic markets and earns around 90 per cent of its income and profits in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

This geographic focus and commitment to developing deep relationships with clients and customers has driven the bank’s growth in recent years.

With 1,700 offices in 68 markets, the StanChart group offers exciting and challenging international career opportunities to over 89,000 staff.
