- Zinnia B. Dela Peña -

MANILA, Philippines -  IP E-Game Ventures Inc., the publicly listed online gaming subsidiary of technology firm IPVG Corp., sealed a deal to purchase 60 percent of Webworx Computer Technology Corp., which owns the CyBr brand of Internet cafes.

The transaction gives IP E-Games a total of about 160 Internet cafes, making it the largest Internet café opetor in the country.

CyBr is the most prominent brand of Internet cafes in the Philippines focused on servicing the online gaming community. Services offered consist of computer renting, printing and photocopying, and network and online gaming.

The CyBr network of i-cafes began operations in 2001 under a sole proprietorship. In 2005, it was incorporated and is now one of the largest and fastest-growing networks of Internet cafes in the country with 18 company-owned and five franchised branches.

“We believe this business venture can successfully realize our future plans for CyBr Network and Internet Cafes and I-Quick Branches to be the leading Internet cafe chain in the country [while] providing our patrons the best customer care, service, and delightful i-café experience. We are here for the long run. Together, we will dominate the gaming café industry and strive to continuously innovate the i-cafe industry to suit the Pinoy lifestyle, ” said Jerry Co, president of Webworx.

For his part, IP E-Games chairman Enrique Gonzalez said: “CyBr is a leading internet cafe and this acquisition will solidify our leadership in the industry. We want to invest in other ‘mom and pop’ i-cafes to help them upgrade their infrastructure based on CyBr’s expertise.”
