BIR enhances 'resibo' project

-

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has enhanced its “Premyo sa Resibo” (PSR) project as part of its campaign against tax cheats.

In its latest report to the Department of Finance (DOF), the BIR said it has acted upon on a total of 9,204 complaints sent through short messaging service (SMS) by consumers.

The complaints are for various violations of business establishments like non-registration of businesses, non-issuance of official receipts and sales invoices.

The enhanced PSR project is based on a directive by BIR Commissioner Lilian Hefti to all Special Investigation Divisions (SIDs) under the office of the BIR’s 19 Revenue Regions to act within five days from receipt of complaints and cases arising from the PSR project.

The tax agency intends to continue promoting the PSR project in the provinces and in Metro Manila as large text volumes are expected to come in from consumers with its popularity now setting out to the countryside.

Launched on Aug. 1, 2006, the electronic lottery project has helped the tax agency in implementing its anti-tax evasion program and enhanced tax collection program by tracking tax violators in the country. – Iris Gonzales
