December 30, 2000 | 12:00am
The Formal Entry Division of the Bureau of Customs assigned at NAIA reported to Commissioner Renato Ampil a cash collection of P90,889,616 for the period Dec. 14-20, 2000 against a target quota of P36,060,000 resulting to a 152.05-percent increase while cash collection for Dec. 7-13, 2000 garnered P52,921,002 against a target quota of P36,060,000 resulting to 46.76-percent increase in revenue collection.
Despite the "economic crisis" caused by a low volume of incoming importations to the Philippines due to peso depreciation against the US dollar, the Formal Entry Division not only surpassed but exceeded the target imposed by the Department of Finance by 152.05 percent.
Dr. Edna V. Garcia, duty collector of the arrival area and chief of the Formal Entry Division through special Deputy Collector Olive R. Lumba attributed the tremendous increase of revenue collection to Customs Commissioner Renato A. Ampil and District Collector Celso P. Templo of Customs-NAIA for their recognition of the Formal Entry Division prowess in assessment by placing the right persons to their proper slots not only based on their experience and educational qualifications, but also based on technical knowledge of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines.
"By recognizing the talents and capabilities of our employees, borne by their outstanding peformance in terms of cash collection of taxes and import duties the commissioner would be able to maximize the potentials of the Formal Entry Division. This could be effectively done through promotion, recognition and awards which will serve as motivational techniques of scientific management," remarked Garcia.
