SHS-AdC Magis Eagles secure basketball crown, punch ticket to 2027 CVIRAA Meet

CEBU, Philippines — The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles blasted Tabok Elementary School (TES), 60-35, in a lopsided final match to emerge as elementary basketball champions of the Palarong Mandaue 2026 Division Meet played last Monday, September 7, at the Barangay Looc Gym in Mandaue City.
Under the guidance of head coach Gabriel Catolico assisted by his deputy coaches Jethro Balogbog and Gio Laguyo, the Magis Eagles posted a perfect 4-0 record on their way to title glory.
The Ateneo Hearters opened their campaign with a 70-14 obliteration of Cubacub ES.
They followed it up with a 65-55 drubbing of Paknaan ES in the quarterfinals before securing a final berth with a 36-25 beating of Tabok ES.
In the gold-medal match, the Magis Eagles reaffirmed their mastery over Tabok ES in dominant fashion to take home the coveted crown.
The champion team, composed of Stefano Tequillo, Ludwig Trocio, Franco Servano, Schyler Famador, Daniel Gothong, Arkin Ayson, Theo Maddox Matheu, Addison Sarcauga, Asher Ding, Farrell Dy, Miguel Plaza and Marcus Banaay, now girds for a much tougher challenge of representing Mandaue in the 2027 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet in Danao City.
“Getting the CVIRAA ticket was not just about offense and defense. It was all about the Ateneo Heart, the Ateneo way - playing for each other, trusting the process, and giving our best until the final buzzer,” said Catolico.
“But now, we need to restart. We need to learn again, work again, and prepare again for our next challenge. What we achieved yesterday is something to be proud of, but it is also a reminder that there is still a lot more to learn and improve. The journey continues,” Catolico concluded.
