Ex-USC varsity player, champion coach mangindahay sa pulitika

CEBU, Philippines — Pareho silang nailhan sa kalibutan sa paugnat sa kusog.

Ning higayona sa natad sa pulitika.  Sila si kanhi University of San Carlos (USC) basketball varsity player Fritz Villamor ug multi-titled coach/league organizer Chelito Caro pormal nang miduso sa ilang setipiko de kandidatura pagka-konsehal sa dakbayan sa Mandaue ug Lapu-Lapu sa umaabot nga bugnong lugaynon sa Mayo 2022.

“It is always a challenge and a joy from the heart to be on the underdog side of the fight, for fighting with the underdogs is fighting for the less fortunate in life and for a real good cause,” padayag pa ni Villamor.

“I always stand for what I believe is right and good for the people especially those who have less in life. It is going to be a long shot for sure and it is a long way ahead but with God nothing is impossible. Definitely, this campaign is for the poor and the marginalized sector of our society,” dugang pa niya. Ang 39-anyos nga si Villamor magpapili ubos sa bag-ong pulitikanhong grupo nga “Ang Bag-ong Mandaue” kansang pambato pagka-bise mayor mao si ex-PBA star Elmer “Boy” Cabahug. Ang ilang standard-bearer mao si kanhi konsehal Olin Seno.

Si Villamor nakaduwa og upat ka tuig uban sa USC Baby Warriors sa iyang panahon isip Carolinian varsity. Duha ka higayon nahimong All-Star, usa siya sa pipila lamang ka mga players nga napakita’g aksiyon sa Cebu Amateur Athletic Association (CAAA) hangtud nga kini nahimong Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI).

“It is really my desire to develop sports up to the grassroots level, especially those sports that we have a big chance to excel on the international stage and our chances of winning medals in the Olympics are higher," dason pa ni Villamor, nga champion player sa ‘99ers sa USC-North Alumni Basketball Conference. “Sports builds character, it’s an integral part of nation-building so it must be given utmost importance.” Sa iyang bahin, gipanglantawan ni Caro ang usa ka lig-on ug makalahutay nga programa sa sports alang sa mga Oponganons kon ugaling mahatagan siya og tsansa nga makaserbisyo sa iyang mga katagilungsod. Modagan siya isip independente unos sa Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan.

“It is really my passion and love for sports that made me decide to run as councilor of Lapu-Lapu City,” paambit pa sa 42-anyos nga si Caro, nga nakadaog og upat ka sagunson nga titulo isip assistant coach sa Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles sa CESAFI. Nakampiyon sab siya sa National University (NU) Bullpups sa UAAP. But sab nga hatagan og pagtagad ni Caro ang mga PWDs (persons with disabilities) sa gibansiwag niyang “Coach Carz Cares”.

Duol sa dughan ni Caro ang mga PWDs gumikan kay usa man siya ka polio survivor nga nanglimbasog sa kinabuhi aron makatatak og pangan isip usa sa nga tinamod ug labing malampuson nga basketball coach dinhi sa Sugbu.

Gawas sa regular niyang mga clinics matag summer sa wala pa ang kalibutanhong pandemiya, si Caro mihimo sab og marka sa commercial basketball human gitimon ang ARQ Builders ngadto sa daghan kaayong korona sa nagkadaiyang mga torneyo sa Kabisay-an ug Mindanao.

Ang 42-anyos nga si Caro gikan sa Barangay Pajo kanhi basketball operations head sa Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup sa wala pa siya gi-promote nga Chief Operations Officer (COO) sa labing unang pro basketball league sa nasud gawas sa Metro Manila. Si Caro mao sab ang kasamtangang direktor sa ARQ Sports nga nagduma sa bag-ong natukod nga boxing gym ug mga promosyon niini.

“As a sportsman, I know I have a lot to offer for the Oponganons through a dedicated and selfless public service,” batbat pa ni Caro. “For the youth and the PWDs, I want to inspire and help them achieve their aspirations in life despite their physical disabilities through sports. If I’m a champion coach in basketball, I firmly believe that I can also be a champion coach as a public servant if given the opportunity.May God help me in this endeavor.”
