Get it, Beauty

Marbbie C. Tagabucba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - I check beauty blogs on the regular and admittedly do a quick Google search and scan while makeup-shopping for all the factors I can’t find out from swiping and testing in an hour in the beauty department. I can’t help but feel alienated by the beauty ideals of most blogs at times. For instance, what if I’m interested in radiance-revealing results, not whitening? (Those are two very different things.) Before I “add to cart” items not readily available in Manila or our nearby shopping capitals, who has already swatched the latest Charlotte Tilbury drop — on Asian skin?

Katrina Ponce-Enrile, her daughter Kristen and Kristen’s best friend Bianca Cabildo Jackes are some of the most on fleek ladies in Manila society. But these women of different beauty styles don’t just rely on professional makeup artists and hair stylists, they actually know their stuff. Bonding over makeup hoarding and beauty talks, founding The Makeup Addicts blog was just a natural thing for the three women who have always been open about their beauty secrets.

Katrina’s love affair with makeup began as early as five years old, swiping her mom’s lipstick when she wasn’t looking. The best-dressed list regular wears a lot of neutrals like black, white, gray and navy blue; statement makeup just packs a punch to her look. Her favorite? A smokey eye. And yes, it can look good on all women at any age. It is her beauty philosophy and the theme for her stories for The Makeup Addicts.

Kris, a carefree spirit, is confident in her sun-kissed skin. She abhors products that mask a woman’s true colors. As a proud morena, Kris has learned that even with all the YouTube tutorials online, only by experimenting on your own skin will you find out what really works for you. Kris is including morena beauties in the makeup discussion with her finds and practices. How she cares for her salon-treated hair while still keeping it shiny and flowy is also an interesting entry.

Bianca Cabildo Jackes is an aspiring makeup artist who trained at Makeup Designory — dubbed the Harvard of makeup schools — drawn to soft and sultry looks that rely on shadow and light play. Herself a head-turner with sophisticated looks, she dispenses actual favorites, with honest, experiential reviews coupled with her expert tips. (We recommend her story on her “holy grail foundations.”)
