Give ‘em hell
MANILA, Philippines - Some call it a phase, some insist that it’s a subculture all its own. But there’s one thing we know for sure about emo: it’s best to deal with your problems as honestly as possible. While some of our favorite emo-punk-rock bands aren’t making music anymore (we were rooting for you, My Chemical Romance!), there are still other things that can get us through. Emo taught us that comfort can be found even in the littlest of things — five-second scream tracks, overcompensating side bangs, and power accessorizing (black-rimmed glasses, of course) are just some of them.
Cool frames have always been a staple but these days, it’s all about Sunnies Specs. “It” girls and guys are rocking these trendy eyeglasses all over social media but don’t be fooled by the pastel branding. You can transform any pair to just about any look — all it takes is the right attitude and commitment.
If you still can’t imagine it, take cues from one of Young STAR’s favorite Instagram baddies — Martine Velasco. Having admitted to growing up influenced by the emo subculture, her personal style still reflects the uniform she once wore and that makes her unique in the sea of social media influencers.
