Bandmates or mates?

Dear Tita Witty,

I’m the only girl in this alternative band. I find myself being attracted to our guitarist, kasi naman sobrang talented! We’ve been getting to know each other better because of rehearsals. We would also text and talk about music and the band and eventually time would pass without us noticing it.

Pero may girlfriend siya, Tita. I think he likes me, too, but it would be very wrong for us to admit anything. Hindi ko naman gustong maging kami, lalo na  baka makasira sa banda. For me, being with him is enough. Okay na ba ‘yun?

Dear Overthinker,

First of all, even if neither of you admits anything, alam niyo sa sarili niyo na may ginagawa kayong hindi okay.  If the girlfriend finds out you’ve been texting, do you think she’d like it? Well, tanong mo rin, malay mo cool pala si ate.

What can I say? Things like this happen all the time. For now, you’re saying you don’t want to be with him. But I have a feeling that will change, especially when you see and talk to him so often. “Out of sight, out of mind” sana ang advice ko sa’yo, but I don’t think you’d be willing to quit your band. If you’re strong enough, ‘wag ka nang makipagtext and try to distance yourself from him during rehearsals. Hello, tugtog/kanta,  goodbye.  Na alam kong hindi mo naman gagawin so bakit ko pa ba sinusulat ‘to?

Someone will eventually get hurt. It’s the girlfriend or it’s you. (Si kuya lang ang panalo. Napakagwapo naman niya at para na rin siyang may abs.) Kung ikaw ang masaktan, write to me to ask how you can move on. Kung hindi naman ikaw ang masaktan, tell the future ex-girlfriend  to write to me to ask how she can move on. Either way, tell your talented guitarist to send me a photo of his abs.
