What to watch on stage: ‘Noises Off’

MANILA, Philippines - Repertory Philippines’ Noises Off could very well be the funniest thing to hit local theaters. Based on an English play, this local adaptation is a play within a play. It deals with the behind-the-scenes of a sex farce, made even more complicated by the complex working (and personal) relationships of the actors. The playwright, Michael  Frayn, wrote Noises Off after realizing it was funnier backstage than onstage, following a farce he had written. The production is impressive because the actors play their two roles smoothly in this hilariously fast-paced play. A good time is guaranteed while watching this. Noises Off will be staged until April 13, and then from April 25 to 27, at Onstage, Greenbelt 1.

Where to BE SEEN: Homies

Wednesday hump day is the perfect pick-me-up for a dragging week. It’s the day to congratulate yourself that you got through the first half of the week, and that there are only two more days before the epic weekend. Why not make hump day even more special by attending an exclusive party at an undisclosed location? This is the aim of Homies, your new Wednesday night habit. Next Wednesday, Homies is debuting at a secret location — and you’ll only find its complete details on Tuesday night at its Instagram page @mgalasingkagabi. The event is shrouded in mystery: Will it have different locations each week? Who will go? What can I expect? Keeping things on the down low makes it dangerously seductive, and will make us more excited for Wednesday than Friday. See you, #Homies!

This week, Anvil Publishing is holding its Warehouse Sale, dropping its impressive array of books up to 80% off. If their yearly participation at the Manila International Book Fair is any indication, this means that books can be had for up to P20 only. Anvil is home to most of modern Filipino literature, so this is a dream for bookworms everywhere. This is also a good starting point for those who have no background in local books.
