Who is the most influential Filipino now?

WORDS WORTH - Mons Romulo - The Philippine Star

We live in a world where we are easily influenced by the people we admire. Their opinions and actions make a big impact on the choices we make and how we live our lives. As people who lead us, they must keep in mind their great responsibility, be cautious with all the decisions they make, and not break the trust we have given them.

Heny Sison, certified culinarian

Cardinal Tagle, as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines, for his simplicity, sincerity, intelligence and charisma.

Former Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando

Kris Aquino because people buy everything she endorses. She enjoys a fan base that follows her journeys, love life and lifestyle preferences.

Milo Naval, furniture designer

Manny Pacquiao is still very influential and his influence is a positive one. Being able to unite the masses and the elite in sports is very impressive.

Rep. Emmi de Jesus, Gabriela Women’s Party

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle wields a towering influence as he has become immersed in many social issues with emphasis on mobilizing the poor and the marginalized sectors. He exudes silence, humility, and respectfulness — qualities that enhance his pastoral work and sense of service among workers and makes him a paragon of virtue in a world jaded with corruption of our political elite.

Michelle Asense Fontelera, businesswoman

Manny Pacquiao because he unites the people whenever he has a fight and the whole country is one in cheering for him and praying for his victory.  He’s brought so much pride to our country.

Yvette Fernandez, editor in chief, Town & Country

I’ve been thinking about this question, I really don’t have an answer, I wish I did. I really wish I did. Isn’t it sad for our country that I can’t come up with a name?

Joey Concepcion, founding trustee, Go Negosyo.

The Filipino entrepreneurs, from micro to small, medium to large. These are the people that will help bring down the level of poverty in our country; the change makers who are bringing about a vibrant economy through the creation of jobs and bringing about innovations that will make the Philippines an exciting place to live in.

Rhoda Aldanese, regional director, Pinnacle Manson Ltd, Hongkong

Archbishop Luis Tagle. He is a man of faith, an effective communicator, respected theologian, with high intellect and great personal qualitie; humility, simplicity, an inspiring leader with compassion for the poor. I pray for him always and for all religious church leaders because we need these qualities  for the world to see that this is indeed a beautiful world. They can influence political leaders to take the moral path.

Girlie Olivares, businesswoman

I consider Luis Cardinal Tagle as the most influential person today.  With the Pope Fever still in the air, the Church plays a very big part in our everyday life.  Cardinal Tagle has touched and influenced countless lives with his words and wisdom.  His kindness and simplicity have become a paragon of generosity and care, a champion of the needy, a role model for Christians everywhere.

Mye Cruz, creative director/owner, Adworks Manila

The youth. They speak their minds, they know what they want, they know what is right from wrong, no gray areas. The youth now are aggressive, innovative and molded with conservative values. It’s exciting to see how they will shape our culture in the years to come.
