If Chito wants it, we'll let him go - PSC head

- Olmin Leyba -

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Garcia yesterday underscored the value of commissioner Chito Loyzaga to the government sports body but said they will not stand in the way if the ex-cage star accepts a post at the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

Loyzaga, a PSC commissioner since July last year, is reportedly being eyed as possible SBP executive director following the resignation of Noli Eala the other day. Former Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Sonny Barrios is said to be the other candidate for the post.

Kailangan namin siya (Loyzaga). He’s part of our team and I think he can do more and serve the country as PSC commissioner,” Garcia, a member of the Luisita team that placed second to Canlubang in the 64th Philippine Airlines Senior Interclub Golf Tournament, told The STAR.

If ever he decides to take the SBP job, Loyzaga will have to quit his PSC post as government officials are barred from holding two positions to avoid conflict of interest. The SBP, the country’s governing body for basketball, asks for financial assistance from the PSC.

“If the reports are true (that Loyzaga’s being offered the SBP position), it’s really up to him to decide. We need him in the PSC but it’s his call. We’ll support whatever decision he will make,” said Garcia, adding that Loyzaga hasn’t personally told him about the SBP matter and he only heard of it through media reports.
