Anton hones up for Macau Asian karting
MANILA, Philippines - Champion racer Iñigo Anton hopes to continue to shine both in sports and academics as he gears up for the tough Asian Karting Open Championship in Macau next month.
The 11-year-old wonder kid from Baguio City, who competes in two classes, recently graduated valedictorian at the Baguio Achiever’s Academy where he thanked all those who supported him in his journey in becoming a national champion racer and being on the top of his class.
The Castrol-Yokohama ward also won the third round of the Formula Cadet Expert National Championships in Palawan last month where he took pole position for the time trials with a time of 1 min., 11.059 seconds then set the lap record in 1 min. 10.939 seconds on board his Kart Plaza-Kilton prepared Formula Cadet during the final heat.
It was Anton’s second win in the division after topping the opening round last February. He now holds a commanding lead in the Formula Cadet Expert Championship.
He also finished second in the Mini-Rok division following a fierce battle with Korean Ace Jarred Kim of Empire Racing for over 12 laps.
“I kept trying to pass Jarred but he really drove well and did not make many mistakes,” said Anton. Zach David finished third followed by Seven Aleman of Cebu.
Anton is handled by multi-titled Philippine champion Edgen Dy-liacco and supported by Ross Jackes, Kilton, Castrol, Kart Plaza, Yokohama, Mark Young Racing, WorksBell Japan, Autoshack, Special Stage, JSD Autosport and GNS Dagupan.
