European bets top Mandaluyong netfest

MANILA, Philippines – Daniel Schaffer and Sannamari Bolenius asserted their supremacy by dominating the Mandaluyong table tennis tournament held recently at the Mandaluyong Elementary School Gymnasium.

Schaffer, a Hungarian national team standout, ruled the men’s Open and under-30 singles of the three-day tournament participated in by at least 370 table netters all over the country, including foreign entries from Hungary and Sweden.

On the distaff side, Bolenius, a regular fixture in the Swedish league first division, topped the women’s Open and U-30 singles after defeating Stephanie Taba of Meralco and DLSU’s Donna Gamila.

Celine Ching and Fellane Labian of University of the Philippines placed third and fourth in the women’s U-30 of the meet backed by McGraphics Carranz, Cafe Lupe, Melbas Farm, Inca Plastics, Intellicare and the City of Mandaluyong.

In the women’s Open, Gamila wound up third followed by Lea Jade Victoria of Rizal Technological University at fourth overall. 

Danica Galang, a product of the PTTA, clinched the girls under-17 crown after beating Sofia Anna Fabregas and Athens Saldua while Chen Amarillo, another top bet from PTTA, ruled the boys’ U-13 and Tiger Event titles. 

La Salle’s Jerald Cristobal ended up second behind Schaffer in the men’s Open singles with Aldrik Goran of Sweden finishing third in the tournament supported by Solar Sports, Liper, Scenema Concept and DotPh. Cristobal again placed second in the U-30 while Swedish players Joel Georgsson and Gustav Pihlsgard were third and fourth.
