Cone bats for Reyes retention as Gilas coach
INCHEON, South Korea -- As Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes came under fire for the team's debacle here, PBA two-time Grandslam coach Tim Cone gave him a vote of confidence.
Cone took to Twitter to express his support to Reyes even as Gilas came up short in making it to the semifinals after defeating Kazakhstan by only two points, 67-65, nine short of the required lead to have a superior quotient.
I just want to say from the heart, I truly believe in @coachot & the program. He's the right guy & the program will bring us to next level.

Cone watched Reyes and Gilas' win over Kazakhstan via online despite being only 40 minutes away from the venue.
Thank you, everyone, for all your live streaming sites. I was able to watch the second half. Heartbroken for @coachot and the guys.

The winningest PBA coach is in nearby Seoul with the San Mig Coffee Super Mixers for a series of tuneup games but failed to watch it live due to tight schedule.
I'm so honored that many on Twitter are asking me to coach the national team. It would be a great honor to do it once again, BUT...

... BUT I truly believe the continuity of the program is paramount and @coachot is certainly the right guy to move us forward. Stand firm!

Reyes indicated in the post-game press conference that he is leaving his fate at the hands of Gilas management.
"If they still want me and still ask me to be the coach, I will continue to make that commitment," Reyes said.
"The players might not be the same, the coach might not be the same but the program continues," he added.
Reyes was Cone's former assistant coach at Alaska in the early '90s before he got the big coaching break to handle Purefoods (now San Mig Coffee).
