'Yolanda' makes second landfall over Tolosan, Leyte

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Super typhoon "Yolanda" has made its second landfall over Leyte province, the state weather bureau said Friday morning.

Chris Perez, weather forecaster at state weather bureau PAGASA, said the super typhoon made its second landfall over Tolosan, Leyte shortly before 7:30 a.m.

Yolanda, packing maximum sustained winds of 235 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 275 kph, made its first landfall over Guiuan, Eastern Samar at around 4:40 a.m.

Perez said after crossing Eastern Samar, the typhoon went over sea and then slammed into land over Tolosa town.

He said the typhoon has maintained its strength and speed even after the second landfall.

Reports said that Yolanda's winds was so powerful that it shattered windows and concrete walls were vibrating as it passed over Leyte.

Public storm signal number 4 remains hoisted over 21 areas in the Visayas.

Meanwhile, weather forecasters said that areas placed under public storm warning signal numbers 3, 2 and 1 should brace for stronger winds later today.

The super typhoon may exit land through northern Palawan or Mindoro provinces in the afternoon.
