MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded three incidents of stray bullets during the Christmas celebration.

Based on a report filed under the Ligtas Paskuhan 2016 as of yesterday morning, the PNP’s National Operations Center (NOC) said two of the incidents occurred in Central Visayas and the other in Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos).

PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa will discuss the details and other cases of indiscriminate firing and firecracker-related injuries in a news briefing today, according to PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos.

This developed as authorities in the Cagayan Valley region reported one victim of stray bullet each in the provinces of Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya. These incidents, however, still have tone verified and reported to the PNP’s NOC.

One of the incidents in Central Visayas occurred on Christmas Eve in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Alex Torre, 62, was on his way home along Pope John Paul street when a bullet hit him at around 10:55 p.m.

Torre was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.

The second incident occurred the following night when a bullet hit the window of a house owned by a certain Apra Sayson in Bantayan, also in Cebu.

Sayson turned the bullet over to the police. No one was injured in the incident.

In General Santos City, Alex Olvido was taken to a hospital at around 12:20 a.m. on Christmas Day for treatment of a bullet wound.

Olvido was walking in Barangay Labangal when he felt pain in the abdomen.

The victims in the Cagayan Valley region were identified as farmer Jerry Palino, 43, of Gattaran town in Cagayan, and Roger Iglesia, of Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya.

Palino was listed in critical condition at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao. He was initially taken to the Tomas Nolasco Hospital in Gattaran town for treatment.
