MANILA, Philippines – Presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe on Thursday explained that their campaign colors white, blue and red represent the Philippine national flag.

During Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s vice-presidential bid announcement, Poe said her campaign colors white and blue are related to Mama Mary while Escudero’s red color almost completes the color of the Philippine flag. However, the absence of color yellow can also be noticed.

“Alam ninyo po 'pag titingnan ninyo po, itong kulay na ito ay light blue na pinili ng nanay ko sabi niya huwag mong kalilimutan ang Mahal na Birhen sa iyong buhay kaya piliin natin ang light blue at puti,” Poe said referring to her official campaign color.

“Si Sen. Chiz ay pula, nakita natin na nabubuo na ang watawat ng Pilipinas,” she added.

Supporters of Poe and Escudero painted Club Filipino, where the announcement was held, red, blue and white as they used these colors in their campaign materials such as shirts, posters and confetti, among others.

Officials and celebrities present in Escudero’s announcement also wore white to show support to the Poe-Chiz tandem who will run as president and vice president for 2016.

Poe and Escudero will run under the coalition they call “Partido Pilipinas.”

Some celebrities and politicians such as Escudero’s wife, Heart Evangelista, Poe’s mother, Susan Roces, Poe’s sister Lovi Poe, Rocco Nacino, Tim Yap, Rex and Wesley Gatchalian and Nationalist People's Coalition president Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao were also present during the announcement.
