SET to focus on Poe's citizenship, drops residency issue

Patricia Lourdes Viray - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - The Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) on Friday decided to drop the residency issue against Sen. Grace Poe and focus on the issue of her citizenship instead.

According to a report, SET chair, Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, proposed to drop the residency issue as it was a "non-issue."

Poe appeared before the Supreme Court to attend the preliminary conference on the disqualification complaint against her.

Defeated senatorial candidate Rizalito David filed the disqualification complaint against Poe, claiming that she is not qualified for office as she is not a natural-born Filipino. The senator earlier submitted her citizenship and travel records to the SET to prove otherwise.
