Aurelio Icasiano & Geolette Esguerra: Two writers create a wedding story

PERSONAL CHOICE - Frannie Jacinto - The Philippine Star

A woman who wears many hats — an architect (residential and commercial), editor, fashion and lifestyle journalist — Geolette Esguerra is a busy bee. She feels that the fields of architecture and journalism complement each other as these allow for greater creativity.

She met Aurelio Icasiano in UP Diliman 12 years ago and they instantly became buddies; they were both seeing other people then. The love of the written word — they both wrote for the UP Quill — brought them together. Geolette wasn’t aware that Aurelio already had a crush on her and to this day, he still remembers what she wore the first time he saw her at the University Hotel.

Upon graduation, Aurelio joined the family’s electrical construction business (MECO Retirees Electrical Contractor), which manages large-scale electric construction projects in the Cavite and Laguna areas. On the side, he writes for magazines and is the contributing editor of Vault magazine.

When Geolette went to Paris in September 2012 to cover Fashion Week, a proposal was hatched by Aurelio. With a sparkling diamond ring that he had  purchased on a recent trip to Hong Kong, Aurelio insisted on taking a boat cruise on the River Seine on that cold autumn night — even if he knew that Geolette was tired from a day’s tour of the Versailles Palace — and surprised his lady love as he proposed while passing in the midst of the Eiffel Tower’s twinkling lights. Taken off guard, it took a couple of seconds for Geolette to happily accept.

Since the couple had worked in a wedding magazine in the past, they preferred simplicity and restraint over theatrics.  The midsummer nuptials at the  San Sebastian Church was the perfect setting for the religious ceremony. Reception followed at Manila Diamond Hotel.

“This wedding was more than our union, it was a reunion of friends and family — we couldn’t be happier to work with most of them for this wedding — each person who is part of this wedding has somehow been part of our professional lives as editors and journalists,” Geolette enthused.
