MANILA, Philippines -  Math wizards from BHC Educational Institution Inc. clinched a gold cup for the top scorer, gold medal and six bronze during the International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) held in Xiamen, China recently.

Competing against nine countries and territories in Asia, Grade 1 pupil Rhian Roxas brought home the first individual Gold Cup of the institution after topping the youngster division.

“We enjoyed the competition and I am very thankful for the training I had with my coach and my parents,” gold medalist Roxas said.

Rodel Roxas, Rhian’s father, said they were surprised at the turnout because they didn’t expect much especially since there were a lot of contestants from big and well-known schools.

“We are greatly blessed that with our training, these young math lovers will grow and get even better in the future,” coach Leonora Dulay said.

Youngster level contestants Rei Jan Albert Valdez and Rianne Clemeil Mamaril, fifth grader Azel Rae Alas (level three), eighth grader Marc Ferdinand Calica (level five), ninth grader Kasler Dell Abansi and tenth grader Drew Anne Corpuz both in level six also clinched bronze medals.

Eighth grader Joshua Raphael Montemayor and ninth grader Kyle Patrick Alimpia both received Merit awards in their respective levels.

“We always encourage our students even at a very young age to love math. Through it, they will be able to develop various skills they can apply in their lives,” school principal Loreta Cepriaso said.
