The world of local retail fashion has always been a showcase of Tinseltown’s famous faces. Celebrities are seen online, on television and in all print mediums endorsing the latest global trends, forecasts and collections.

The popularity of these celebrities has effortlessly and successfully transcended up-to-date styles to the mass market. In effect, on-the-radar fashion has become more practical and accessible nationwide.

But fashioning the market isn’t just all about what’s new, now and next. Local retail’s main players are making the business of fashion a business of service. Plains & Prints, one of the biggest names in the local retail landscape, together with five of the country’s notable designers — Randy Ortiz, Rhett Eala, Rajo Laurel, Maureen Disini and Vania Romoff — recently launched capsule collections for a cause. The collaboration was made in partnership with ICanServe Foundation in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).

Each designer created designs that were launched last Sept. 1 at The Gallery of Greenbelt 5 with one of the country’s most popular celebrities, Anne Curtis. Each designer presented pieces that displayed his or her aesthetics, individuality and sensibilities.

Randy Ortiz’s sporty-inspired creations echoed the versatility of structured tailoring for the 21st-century woman. Rhett Eala’s long romance with femininity was celebrated with touches of pink in his masterful practical pieces that evoked beauty, elegance and sexiness. Rajo Laurel’s statement of contrasts mimicked the duality of women empowerment in soft and structured masterpieces. Maureen Disini’s homage to the simplicity of comfort reveled in easy modern designs, perfect for day-to-night dressing. While Vania Romoff’s romance with femininity unfolded in easy silhouettes, delightful floral details and captivating hues.

The Plains & Prints x ICanServe collection will be in all Plains & Prints stores from Sept. 14 to Oct. 31. Fashion will touch the heart with every purchase of these must-have pieces. From the total sales of this special and limited offering, 15 percent will go to ICanServe Foundation.

The brand’s collaboration proves that the very core of fashion is a heart that’s ready to serve those in need, which is indeed a noble act that many should follow. One piece of clothing can go a long way. Though fashion can be quite intimidating because of all the glitter, its purpose to serve others cannot be dismissed.

You wear because you care. And in the bigger scale of things, this is the essence of fashion.
