Modern Femininity

MULTIPLE CHOICE - Luis Espiritu Jr. - The Philippine Star

What do Yves Saint Laurent, Cristóbal Balenciaga and Hubert de Givenchy have in common?

Historically, each name has created a classic and timeless imprint in the world of fashion. In their respective eras, their brilliant artistry, style innovation and outstanding works have greatly influenced the code of dressing. Their unforgettable contributions are milestones, which have remained the benchmark and inspiration to the multitude of aspiring designers. Thus, the global design industry has paid tributes to them via books, exhibitions and celebrations for their remarkable achievements in the world of fashion. Each name is immortalized as a legendary master of fashion.

Today, the spirit of these masters live as their designs transcend through modern-day times.

In the Philippines, designer Rhett Eala celebrates the works of the masters through his latest collection “Nirvana.”  In his recent showcase at the Manila Fashion Festival, both menswear and women’s wear seamlessly echoed masterful creations.

In the latest genius of Rhett, the old becomes new as traditional fabrication such as taffeta is recreated in modern designs and silhouettes. Traditional code of dressing sensibilities has evolved and recreated in chic street wear. Ruffles, bows, embroidery and handmade detailing are fused into contemporary fabrication such as denim.

A statement of detail is prevalent in menswear as it reveals a standout feminine/masculine point of view. The collection showcases a new approach to femininity with intricate embroidery and ruffles in sportswear and denim fabrication.

On the other hand, women’s wear goes ultra-luxe and femme all the way. The style this time essays a grandstanding exposition of layers and layers of ruffles, voluminous silhouettes, intricate beadwork, appliqués and embellishments reminiscent of the legends of fashion. More than the art of detail, Rhett’s mood of luxury channels the current age of “nowness” into everyday dressing.

He who is inspired by the masters is overwhelmingly in a state of “nirvana.” Rhett’s seamless approach to cut and form reflects design reinvention and relevance in now-dressing. These are collective pieces that are truly unforgettable.
