13 areas under 'danger' heat index alert

MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen areas across the country were put under “danger” heat index classification by the state weather bureau PAGASA.

In its latest heat index bulletin as of April 27, the state weather bureau said that these 13 areas may experience scorching heat, with temperatures ranging from 42°C to 51°C.

Under this index, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely to occur with prolonged exposure.

Sangley Point in Cavite may expect temperatures of up to 44°C, the highest on the April 28 list.

The following areas are also under the heat index classification:

  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 43°C
  • Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – 43°C
  • Butuan City, Agusan del Norte – 43°C
  • NAIA, Pasay City – 42°C
  • Aparri, Cagayan – 42°C
  • Iba, Zambales – 42°C
  • Cubi Point, Subic Bay (Olongapo City) – 42°C
  • NAS-UPLB, Los Baños, Laguna – 42°C
  • San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42°C
  • Cuyo, Palawan – 42°C
  • Masbate City, Masbate – 42°C
  • Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur – 42°C

In Metro Manila, aside from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, readings from the PAGASA Science Garden are under “extreme caution” or temperatures ranging from 33°C to 41°C. 

PAGASA Science Garden is expected to feel temperatures of up to 40°C.
