Labella goes on leave due to slight pneumonia

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella is taking a 3-day medical leave starting yesterday after he was admitted to the hospital over the weekend because of “slight pneumonia.”

In his post on Facebook, Labella said that in his absence Vice Mayor Michael Rama will take over executive functions at City Hall until his return to office on Thursday.

“In the spirit of transparency, I would like to inform everyone that during the weekend, I had fever and was admitted to a hospital after advice. After consultations and series of tests, they found out that I have slight pneumonia,” Labella posted on his official Facebook page.

The mayor said he was due for discharge yesterday but his doctor advised him to take a rest.

“I am heeding the medical advice and will be on leave for three days beginning today until Wednesday,” Labella said.

“Mobalik ako sa pag-serbisyo sa umaabot nga adlaw’ng Huwebes. While I am on medical leave, Vice Mayor Mike will be taking over executive functions at City Hall,” he added.

This is the second time this year that Labella goes on medical leave. In January he also went on an extended leave due to ear infection.

Rama said he had been calling Labella the past few days to discuss some matters with him but only got a chance to talk to him yesterday morning. It was also the only time he knew that the Mayor was taking a leave.

While Rama is acting mayor, Councilor Donaldo Hontiveros will assume as acting vice mayor. — FPL (FREEMAN)
