De Leon: NPA anniversary chance for rebels to surrender
CEBU, Philippines — Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 Director General Valeriano De Leon is hoping that the coming anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) will be a chance for the rebels to surrender, rather than continue its insurgency efforts.
"Baliktarin natin baka ito pa ang araw na mag-surrender kasi merong ginagawa ang ating mga kasundalohan at ating mga kapulisan sa pagpapalaganap ng peace and order sa Central Visayas," De Leon said.
De Leon has envisioned peace and order with the members of the CPP-NPA over the signed order of the president to end local communist conflict.
De Leon emphasized that, to start this, it must need a holistic approach that calls the help of the whole nation.
De Leon has announced that they will be raising their heightened alert status to monitor the possible threats that may arise.
"Every time they will celebrate their anniversary, we will not leave the idea that they may be causing dangers to our uniformed people," De Leon said.
He, however, clarified that they will continue to raise their guards up when the NPAs celebrate their anniversary, as part of their regular precautionary action. (FREEMAN)
