75 thousand seniors to get P2 thousand cash aid from city government today

Odessa O. Leyson - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  An estimated 75,585 elderly people in Cebu City are expected to claim their P2,000 cash aid today for the months of April and May this year from the city government.

The P2,000 is part of the P12,000 the city appropriates as yearly financial assistance for each registered senior citizen.

The city government decided to resume the cash aid distribution now that the election is over.

In accordance with City Ordinance No. 2453 or “The Annual Financial Assistance to All Qualified Senior Citizens of Cebu City Ordinance”, the city government allots P12,000 yearly to every senior citizen at P1,000 per month.

Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) officer-in-charge Lourdes Limpangog said the venue for the distribution will be the different government-owned facilities such as barangay halls, sport complexes, and public schools, as provided under the city ordinance.

The distribution will be from 8 a.m. until noon. The cash will be distributed by the city disbursing officer assisted by barangay officials.

Limpangog said seniors are asked to present their identification cards from OSCA in order to claim the money.

Those who can’t make it today have a 10-day grace period to claim their assistance at the City Treasurer’s Office.

“They should claim it tomorrow (today) g’yud para dili na sila mo-ari sa City Hall, gituyo na namo nga sa barangays for their convenience, so that dili na sila magari-ari,” Limpangog said.

Those who fail to get their cash aid within the grace period will automatically forfeit it.

Limpangog said there are also teams tasked to go to the houses of bedridden senior citizens to release the cash aid. Record shows that there are over 2,000 registered bedridden seniors in various barangays in the city.

She reiterated that they will not honor authorization letters to avoid untoward issues related to the disbursement of the financial assistance.

“Wala g’yud na siya kay that is based on the ordinance nga dili pwede g’yud ang authorization,” Limpangog said.

The distribution of the cash aid for the month of June has yet to be announced. — BRP (FREEMAN)
