CEBU, Philippines - The wife of a street-level drug pusher in San Fernando town ends up in jail after her husband tries to bribe police not to file charges against him.

In Sitio Lacaron, Brgy Pitalo, San Fernando around 11:45 a.m., police conducted a buy-bust operation against Edward Sulpak, 31, a resident of Barangay Mohon, an identified notorious drug personality.

After Sulpak’s arrest, he tried to bribe the police officers, telling them not to file a case against him in exchange for P20,000 cash which will be given by his supplier.

San Fernando Chief of Police, Senior Inspector Adrian Nalua immediately conducted an entrapment operation against the said supplier.

But it was Sulpak’s wife, Melmar, 29, a resident of Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City who arrived in the designated area with the bribe money.

Melmar was then arrested by police for violating Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code, Corruption of Public Officials.

According to Nalua, Sulpak was an active street-level drug pusher whose area of operations includes Carcar City, aside from San Fernando.

He added that subject was a former drug surrenderer in Naga City but had gone back to doing his illegal trade probably last month.

The police conducted at least two weeks surveillance on Sulpak before the buy-bust.

Police were able to recover two packs of suspected shabu and the P200 buy-bust money from his possession.

Also arrested was Ervin  Calledo, 29, a resident of Barangay Taloot, Carcar City, believed to be Sulpak’s customer. Calledo was caught in possession of one pack of shabu.

Meanwhile, around 3:30 p.m. in Minglanilla, operatives arrested three persons who were caught in the act of sniffing suspected shabu in a small shanty in Center Calajoan.

Arrested were Agapito Palasan, Jr., 46; Eusebio Engracial, 50; and Ronnie Velosa, 32, all residents of Center Calajoan.

During the operation, police recovered one sachet containing suspected shabu and some drug paraphernalia.

In Talisay City, John Mark Satinitigan, 28, was also arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by Talisay City police in Zone 4, Sitio San Jose in Barangay Dumlog.

Before the buy-bust, police had received information about Satinitigan’s operation.

Police recovered from Satinitigan’s possession 15 packs triangular sachet weighed 0.3 grams worth a total of P3,540.

Those arrested have been detained pending proper filing of appropriate charges. (FREEMAN)
