Want to make the whole family love fish, vegetable ulam? Try these classic recipes made even more delicious!

Filipino homes love pinakbet not only because it’s certified delicious, it’s also budget-friendly with easy-to-find ingredients. This recipe can be traced to the northern regions of the country. Pinakbet is from the Ilocano word: pinakebet, which means shriveled or shrunk.

Over the years, the recipe has evolved. But what remains is the use of a variety of vegetables usually paired with meat such as lechon kawali, and not to be missed, bagoong (shrimp paste) or patis (fish sauce) for its signature taste.

In this recipe, it is still a simple pinakbet prepared with a few ingredients but with the special addition of Knorr Shrimp Cube—which is made with real shrimp!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp bagoong
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 small red onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 pcs ripe tomatoes
  • 2 cups squash, sliced
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 small ampalaya, sliced
  • 2 eggplants, sliced
  • 8 pcs okra, sliced
  • 1 pc Knorr Shrimp Cube
  • 2 cups chicharong baboy, crushed

Procedure

  1. Sauté onions and garlic. Add shrimp paste and tomato. Mix well.
  2. Add squash, water and Knorr Shrimp Cube for more flavor. Cover and let it cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Add ampalaya, eggplant and okra. Mix and cover. Let cook for another 5 to 8 minutes.
