After setbacks, Kuya Dick believes there are better plans for him

GMA Public Affairs has given the country a new set of recognitions after winning two world medals and scoring the most number of shortlisted entries from the Philippines at the prestigious 2020 New York Festivals “World’s Best TV and Films” Competition.

In this time of uncertainty brought by the Coronavirus strain, it is good to hear good news of triumph amidst the backdrop of gloom and despair.

Award-winning actor Roderick Paulate is considered an icon by young comedians who idolize him and want to follow in his footsteps.

“I may be not that young anymore but it’s music to my ears when aspiring comedians and actors say I haven’t lost my touch when it comes to my acting,” said the actor who did memorable movies such as “High School Circa ’65,” “Inday, IndaysaBalitaw,” and “Ded Na Si Lolo” for which he won Best Actor for Comedy at the Golden Screen Awards.

He was last seen in the comedy series “One of the Baes” where he played the closeted gay dad of Rita Daniela.

“When they say wala pa rinakongkupas, all the more that I get inspired to show what I’ve got as an actor,” said Kuya Dick who also appeared in the top-rating drama series “AngMuntingHeredera” on GMA 7.

The actor said he was not really partial to teleseryes but the offer to do “One of the Baes” was just right. Besides, he hasn’t portrayed a gay role for quite some time.

“I know that young actors use me as peg whenever they are offered gay roles. But I’d like to choose the gay roles offered to me. At my age, I have to do something different and I should have some input in the character. As an actor, I have to balance my performances.”

Kuya Dick says challenges and trials are part of our lives. But he believes in God’s plan for him. While he may have suffered some setbacks along the way, he still believes God has a better purpose for him.

“I still believe that everything will happen in God’s time. I got an offer to do a new show plus two movies. I believe that some things may not happen in our time but it will happen in His time. I’d rather listen to God. There are things that you ought to trust the Lord for it to happen. Lesson learned that certain things may be lost but God will replace that in some other way. Just believe in Him.”
