BIR reiterates 5-year validity of cash register accreditation

CEBU, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue reiterated on the five-year validity of the accreditation of cash register machines, which started in August last year.

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares issued Revenue Memorandum Circular 55-2016 to inform dealers, suppliers and distributors of cash register machines that applications for accreditation should be processed at the BIR national office and will have a 5-year validity period from the issuance date of the Certification of Accreditation.

BIR said the accreditation number and the date of accreditation of the accredited supplier are required to be printer at the bottom part of the official recent or sales invoice.

The agency further said that Certificate of Accreditation that were issued prior to the issuance of the revenue memorandum that set the 5-year validity period staring August this year shall be valid and in effect based on its date of issuance.

For instance, cash registers that were issued accreditation on September 27, 2014 will be valid until July 31, 2020.

Those accredited on August 5, 2015 are valid until August 4, 2020.

All Certificate of Accreditation that will expire on the period prescribed shall apply for renewal of accreditation within 60 days prior to the expiration of the 5-year validity period. —(FREEMAN)
