FiberXers regain form

MANILA, Philippines — Red-faced from its previous loss to Ginebra, Converge vented its ire on NorthPort, 111-92, to get back in the saddle in the PBA Philippine Cup last night at the PhilSports Arena.
After a forgettable showing in their 66-85 beatdown from the Gin Kings in Pampanga, Alec Stockton and Schonny Winston bounced back strong with 33 and 22 points, respectively, to fuel the FiberXers to the quick pull-around and 5-3 overall.
It was the explosive duo who anchored Converge’s breakaway 34-21 salvo in the second canto, where they outscored the entire Batang Pier crew in this stretch with their combined 23. Stockton had only eight and Winston four in their defeat on the road.
Also reasserting themselves after playing below expectations against the Gin Kings were Converge’s Twin Towers Justin Arana (18-14) and Justine Baltazar (10-11), who turned in double-double performances this time.
“Coming from a really bad loss and a bad game against Ginebra, it’s a good bounce back win for us” said coach Franco Atienza.
Later, Barangay Ginebra outclassed Phoenix, 119-112, for back-to-back wins and a share of third with San Miguel at 4-2. The Fuel Masters dropped to 2-5.
