MANILA, Philippines — Filipina ace Alex Eala missed a quarterfinals berth in her first W60 tournament, falling short against hometown bet Simona Waltert, 5-7, 6-3, 2-6, late Thursday night in Bellinzona, Switzerland.

Battling homecourt disadvantage against the Swiss veteran, the 15-year-old Filipina stood her ground built on strong counters but could not sustain steam in the three-set match en route to a third-round exit.
