POC charter change meets strong opposition
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Olympic Committee’s plan to impose an age limit on officials seeking elective posts in the POC is expected to face rough sailing as seven members of the body openly stated their opposition to the measure.
POC chairman Steve Hontiveros, first vice president Jose Romasanta, second VP Jeff Tamayo, treasurer Julian Camacho, auditor Jonne Go and board members Clint Aranas and Robert Mananquil signed an 18-page letter forwarded to POC secretary-general Edwin Gastanes last Monday opposing the move.
The move came just hours after the POC deferred any decision on the charter change proposal due to lack of time.
The POC officials are part of the 13-member executive board that will decide on whether or not the proposed amendments will be passed on to the general assembly for final approval.
POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said it will all be tackled at the right time.
