Adamson, Enderun win in BBI women's caging

MANILA, Philippines – The Adamson Lady Falcons broke a close game against the La Salle Lady Green Archers in the fourth period to win, 57-51, in the BBI Women’s Under-25 tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center is Quezon City.

From a slim 45-44 lead to start the fourth period, Adamson blanked DLSU for the first five minutes and 17 seconds of the final frame while scoring four points of their own to gain a crucial edge.

La Salle finally hit a bucket to break the drought, but Adamson retaliated with a 5-0 salvo for a 54-46 lead with 2:34 to play. While there is still plenty of time, Adamson’s defense made their DLSU counterparts bleed for points.

Marga Jimenez knocked down a jumper with time down to 1:46 and as they Lady Falcons did all match long, they had an answer.

Rose Diampos’ jumper with the shot clock winding down was a big shot for Adamson, but La Salle refused to throw in the towel with 1:20 left. But in their next three possessions, they missed two shots and tacked on only one free throw.

Joehanna Arciga’s jumper with 12 seconds left was woefully too late to make a dent as Adamson escaped with a 57-51 win.

The Lady Falcons’ tandem of Diampos (17 points) and Mar Prado (16 points and nine rebounds) was too much for La Salle who only got double digit scoring from Bernice Paraiso (16 points and 12 rebounds) but didn’t score in the fourth period.

In the other BBI women’s match, Enderun College used a second quarter 15-8 run to hike a two-point first quarter lead into a 32-23 lead going into the half against Our Lady of Perpetual Help University. The rest of the way, Enderun answered every OLFU run with one of their own for a 68-52 win.

Kate Marcos scored 17 points while MG Calang added 13 markers for Enderun.

OLFU’s Anna Kristel Escotido scored 16 points while teammate Gift Ferrer notched 13 of her own.
