MANILA, Philippines — Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College kept its playoff hopes alive while ending that of Family Mart-Enderun in pulling off a 91-90 squeaker in the PBA D-League at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao yesterday.
Chris dela Peña scored the winning layup with 13.8 seconds ticks to play, enabling the Generals to check a four-game skid and improve to 2-5 for solo eighth in the Aspirants’ Group.
Dela Peña finished with 12 points to back Earvin Mendoza’s team-high 18 points and Marwin Taywan’s 14-point, five-assist effort.
“Last time, I told them that we should learn how to win,” said Generals coach Oliver Bunyi. “This time, the effort was there, and I’m very proud of them that they were able to follow instructions.”
SMDC-National U finally broke through to also stay in the hunt while seeing off CD14 Designs-Trinity University of Asia, 107-75.
John Clemente poured 12 of his 18 points in the first half to fuel the Bulldogs’ strong 29-11 start that set the tone for the 32-point romp.
Dave Ildefonso joined the fray in the third, dropping 10 of his 18 points in the frame as SMDC-NU chalked up a win after a dry 0-5 spell in the Foundation Group.
