Que rallies with 66, ties for 25th
MANILA, Philippines — Angelo Que checked a two-day slump with a fiery closing 66, jumping from the bottom of the surviving field for joint 25th in the Maybank Championship being disputed by Aussie Scott Hend and Spain’s Nacho Elvira at presstime at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.
Down to as low as 51st of the 73-player field which survived the halfway cut, Que worked his way back with a big backside charge following a bogey on No. 10, birdying four of the last seven for a 33.
He went four-under with another birdie on the first hole then came out of a bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie game with birdies on Nos. 6 and 9 to match his first round output that put him early contention before tumbling down with 77 and 73 in the middle rounds.
He finished with a 282 in a tie with four others, including Thai legend Thongchai Jaidee (69) and Swede ace Robert Karlsson (64), nine strokes behind Hend’s 261 total following a final round.
