DLSZ scores triple win in BBI hoops

MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle Zobel’s three age group teams scored three wins in one day in the sulit.ph BBI Conference 2 at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center.

The Junior Archers’ Under-14 team defeated Kings Montessori School, 88-39, while their Under-12 squad mauled Escuela de Sophia of Caloocan Inc. (EDSCI), 80-59. Completing the day’s trifecta for Ws was their Under-10 five that defeated their Ateneo counterparts, 47-38.

Tomi Lu, Rhyle Melencio and Sead Chang were a handful for KMS as the three combined for 38 points, which was nearly as much as the entire output of their opponent. DLSZ’s U-14 team took the first period, 31-9, and never looked back.

Going down two ages below, the Junior Archers made good use of their first half buffer to turn back a strong second half challenge by EDSCI. DLSZ led, 42-24, after 20 minutes of play, but the Caloocan five played better in the second half, almost matching the Ayala Alabang team basket for basket.

Khallel Dadis led DLSZ with 14 points, 16 rebounds and two assists. Teammates Paul Pangan and James Eribal added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Rounding out the day’s haul for the Junior Archers was a win over rival Ateneo. The Junior Archers held the Eaglets to 10 points total for the entire first half while scoring 25 points. Ateneo came alive in the second half, but the first half buffer was good enough to withstand the late rally.

Karl Ortigas scored 14 points for DLSZ. Ateneo’s Drake Tagudin led the blue and white with 10 points and three boards.

In other BBI matches, the Technological Institute of the Philippines squeaked past Manuel L. Quezon University, 70-65, in the Men’s Under-25 bracket. La Salle Greenhills dumped Grind Hoops, 77-65, in the Under-12 division. Club team Passion Sports slammed La Salle College of Antipolo, 66-35, in the Under-10 group.
