MANILA, Philippines — While Manny Pacquiao is cutting down on the hours in the gym in training, his challenger, American Adrien Broner, is pushing himself harder than before as he gears up for the Jan. 19 showdown in Las Vegas.

Broner hosted a media workout at the legendary 5th Street Gym in Miami Beach, Florida yesterday, and talked about the importance of the fight.

“This is a hell of a fight not only for me but for the sport. This is a fight that needed to happen for the sport and we are going to put on a hell of a show,” the 29-year-old Broner, who has 33 wins and three defeats, said.

“I’m training so much and training real hard. This will be my second workout of the day and then after this I have another workout at 8:30 p.m. so that will be the third workout for the day so you know all my off time I try to eat properly, stay hydrated and stay focused,” Broner said.

Pacquiao, who just turned 40, has far greater experience inside the ring, with 60 wins, seven losses and two draws.

The Filipino superstar is in his fifth week of training, the first four in Manila. He moved camp to General Santos City last week but took a couple of days off to celebrate his birthday by giving away millions to his guests and the local folks.

Broner turned pro in May 2008, on the same year Pacquiao was beating the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz and the great Oscar dela Hoya.

But Broner doesn’t care about the past. All he knows is that Pacquiao is not unbeatable, and that there are weaknesses to exploit.
