Tight security assured for BOSS Ironman-Minda

MANILA, Philippines — Security preparations are under way for the holding of the 13th BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge in Mindanao with a huge field expected to see action on June 22-24.

Lito Flores, president of the BOSS-IMC organizing committee, met with local government executives, police officials and motorcycle clubs in Davao City recently to iron out security measures for the estimated 600-700 participants of the country’s most prestigious endurance run.

Officials of BOSS (BMW Owners Society of Safe Riders) have coordinated with the regional execs of the Department of Tourism (DoT), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) a few days ago after they identified the 1,200km route for the participants.

Riders must complete the route within the 24-hour deadline set by the organizers although they have to strictly observe traffic rules, particularly speed limit.

BOSS president Tey Usis joined Flores in meeting with leaders of local motorcycle clubs that included the On Any Sunday Riders Club and Norminring led by Jondi Lacson. With President Rodrigo Duterte among its founding members, On Any Sunday Riders Club will play a big role in the motorcycle endurance run.

Petron and BMW Motorrad have assured their support to the IMC-Mindanao leg.

The BOSS riders conducted an ocular inspection using their motorbikes on the 1,200km route that will start from the parking lot of SM Lanang Premier in Davao City leading to several towns of Agusan del Norte, Bukidnon, Koronadal, General Santos City and then back to Davao City.

The IMC-Mindanao Leg was pushed by House Deputy Speaker Ferdinand Hernandez in line with President Duterte’s “Go South” tourism campaign to highlight the natural beauty of the region. Both Hernandez and Duterte are avid riders.
