Tacloban Fighting Warays joins Premier Volleyball League

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Premier Volleyball League has accepted the Tacloban Fighting Warays as its new team when it kicks off its new season with the Reinforced Conference in May.

Tacloban coach Nes Pamilar, formerly of the Power Smashers, said the squad will be managed by Mel Macasaet and spearheaded by Jovielyn Prado, Regine Anne Arocha and Mary Anne Esguerra of reigning NCAA champion Arellano University.

Pamilar said they are also eyeing Shola Alvarez, a former Jose Rizal U star and the NCAA Season 93 MVP whose contract with Pocari Sweat has expired last year, to beef up the Fighting Warays’ roster.

San Sebastian’s Vira May Guillema, University of the East’s Judith Abil and Far Eastern U’s Kyle Negrito are the other members of the new squad along with Jan Eunice Galang, Seth Rodriguez and Bangladesh Pantaleon.

Pamilar said they’re tapping Thai legend Patcharee Sangmuang as their reinforcement in the upcoming conference.

An Alyssa Valdez-led Creamline, a Myla Pablo-paced Pocari-Air Force, Bali Pure, BanKo-Perlas and Petro Gazz Angels are among the clubs seeing action this coming PVL season with two more teams to formalize their participation next month.
