Latest Gilas pools known

MANILA, Philippines — The head coach of the national basketball team is off to a frenzy start.

Shortly after revealing the pool for the second window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers on Thursday morning, Gilas Pilipinas mentor Chot Reyes shared via a Twitter posting the 23-man list that make up the pool for the 2023 Basketball World Cup to be held here and two other venues.

Notably absent for the 15-man selection for the February FIBA games is Terrence Romeo, Gilas' hotshot guard who has bailed the team on numerous occasions.

In the pool for the World Cup five years from now, youngsters Kai Sotto and AJ Edu banner the squad. Players from college champion teams — Thirdy Ravena, Isaac Go, Mike Nieto of Ateneo; and Robert Bolick and JVee Mocon of San Beda are also in the squad.

NCAA Most Valuable Player CJ Perez also made the list. He is joined by UP's breakout player in Juan Gomez de Lianio among others.

"No one has a lock on anyone's spot, so they have to battle for that," Reyes told News5 in a separate interview.

The national team — using the 15-man pack — will resume its conquest to make into the 2019 Basketball World Cup when they clash with Australia on the road this February 22.
