Ginebra's Tenorio shooting well from outside despite bum elbow
MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra chief playmaker LA Tenorio is in the Top 10 in the tourney in 3-point shooting percentage, hitting at a high 42-percent clip curiously despite an injured right shooting elbow.
On Sunday, Tenorio went 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, including the dagger trey that highlighted their big finishing kick on the way to their 86-76 win over Meralco in Game Two of their title showdown.
“He’s playing with a bum elbow. He’s gonna have surgery on his elbow at the end of the conference. But he’s playing through it and he’s still shooting the ball well,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone of his prized point guard.
“He’s pretty amazing this conference. He misses some drives there but he never stops believing in himself. That makes him special,” Cone also said.
Tenorio said he’s been hesitant to undergo a procedure on his elbow because he’s been shooting well despite the injury.
“Sayang, ang taas ng percentage,” he said.
He said he copes because he’s taking oral painkillers.
“Once I’m warmed-up, I no longer feel the pain. Bumabalik pag lumamig, sabihin niyo kay coach,” sa Tenorio, smiling.
