Barako Bull breaks away in 4th quarter, pounds Globalport

MANILA, Philippines – Barako Bull cut loose from a seesawing contest at the onset of the fourth quarter and trounced Globalport, 108-95, for some improvement in the lower half of the chart in the PBA All-Filipino Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday.

JC Intal and rookie Carlo Lastimosa hit back-to-back 3-pointers, touching off the Energy Cola’s searing fourth-quarter breakaway en route to their second win in their last three games and fourth in 12 matches in all.

“We came from a heartbreak loss to Rain or Shine. This is our last game this year, and I told the guys let's end the year with a bang. I’m happy they responded,” said Barako Bull coach Bong Ramos.

Dorian Pena imposed his huge presence underneath the basket, collecting 15 points and 10 rebounds while Denok Miranda, Mick Pennisi, Lastimosa, Keith Jenses and Mark Isip put in at least 10 points each in an evenly spread point production Barako delivered to negate Jay Washington’s career-best tying 30-point explosion.

Washington scored his final basket with over seven minutes left to play as he and his teammates sputtered in the closing minutes, and went down with a third straight loss and their sixth in 10 games.

Still within striking distance at 89-96, Globalport allowed to break away for good with three successive passing errors.

The Energy Cola parlayed each of those Globalport turnover into a basket and roared beyond reach at 108-89 with two minutes left to play.

The Batang Pier had a good start and fought the Energy Cola through 13 dead locks and the same number of lead changes before fading away.
