- Joey Villar -

MANILA, Philippines -  Daniel Nova of St. Benilde clocked 10.8 seconds to bag the gold medal in the 100-meter dash in the 86th NCAA season at the Rizal Memorial track and field oval recently.

Christian Bagsit of Letran and John Bulatao of Perpetual Help came in second and third with 10.9 and 11.1 clockings, respectively, at the start of the track and field event, the last sport being disputed in the league’s Season 86.

Mervin Guarte of defending seniors champion San Sebastian topped the 800m run in one minute, 52 seconds, beating Mapua’s Edgardo Alejar (1:53.2) and Jose Rizal’s Roldan Verano (1:53.6).

The Cardinals, meanwhile, leaned on Roberto Francisco’s victory in the 110m hurdles (15.3 seconds) with Jose Rizal’s Domingo Cabadrilla (16.1) and Perpetual Help’s Patrick Faderogao (16.4) taking the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In juniors’ division, Joemel Vargas of San Sebastian took the gold in the century dash and 110m hurdles in 11.5 and 16 seconds, respectively, while Arellano U’s Kenneth Sardera topped the 800m run in 2:07.08.

San Beda currently leads the overall race after ruling football but St. Benilde, Letran and San Sebastian are in hot pursuit of the crown.

Day 2 of the field events will resume at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City while the rest will be held at the Rizal Memorial oval in tomorrow’s final day of hostilities.
