Agui retains 19-pt spread despite 74

BAGUIO CITY , Philippines  – Camp Aguinaldo slowed down with a mediocre 74 but still retained a whopping 19-point lead over Baguio Country Club in the Am-A seniors division of the Fil-Am golf tournament at the BCC course here yesterday.

Francis Calma shot 20 points while Jacinto Ligot, Clyde Fernandez and Ben Liclican added 20, 17 and 16 points, respectively, as Aguinaldo, which shot a 104 at Camp John Hay in the second round, pooled a 278 total heading to the final round of the tournament.

But the hosts failed to pounce on the Aguinaldo golfers poor round as they could only put in 74 points from Pete Loy’s 21, Benjie Favis and Luis Sison’s identical 18s and Mariano Ang’s 17 for a 259 total.

Capitol Hills, behind Ed Magnabijon’s 24 points, fired a 79 for a 253 for third.

Over at John Hay, Pines Golf Club of California turned in 106 for a 287 as it wrested the lead from overnight leader Camp Aguinaldo, which had a 101.

Fred Molina put in 31 points while Art Molina, Emil Alviar and Flor Hufana had 29, 24 and 22 points, respectively, for the Baguio-born Californians.

Aguinaldo drew a pair of 26s from Art Alabanza and Dante Tejada while Simeon Dizon and Rey Ochosa made 25 and 24 points, respectively,

Philippine Navy scored a 104 for a 274 for third.

Team Falken, meanwhile, shot 95 points for a 260 as it posted a 15-point lead over Summer Capital GC-North. Enrico Santos paced Falken with 30 points while Joselito Cruz, Ed Manabat and Florentino Mercado had 27, 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Bayani Tecson led Summer Capital with 24 points while Paeng Ding, Charles Baguilat and Marlon Herrera made 22, 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Baguio Ventures I had an 82 for a 244 while CJH GC II turned in a 97 for a 244.

In Am F, NBI Golf Team scored 68 points for a 210 as it gained a share of the lead with Isabela GC-Tuguegarao, which struggled with 55 points. Isabela GC-Cagayan had 67 for a 207.   – Artemio Dumlao
